"What seemed important yesterday does not
seem so important today.  But in another sense,
the ugliness, brutality and hatred of the cowardly
attacks ( on the World Trade Center and the
Pentagon)  makes us more committed than
ever to bringing joy and beauty to our
community.  The work that we do at the Arts
Council becomes more important than ever.

If a piece of art can give meaning to someone's
life, if hearing a great work of music can
introduce beauty where none existed before, if
enjoying dance can take us to a place we could
not get to ourselves, then are we not obligated
more than ever to work for and support the arts?

Do we all not want to light the candle rather
than curse the dark?    We cannot and will not let
others destroy the beauty around us and in us.
Let us surround ourselves with the beauty and
magic of the arts and pledge to do whatever we
can to banish ugliness from our midst."

Jane Lonon, Director, Ashe Co. Arts Council

In the 2001-2002 school year, I began at Blue Ridge Elementary in Warrensville, NC.

Around the first of November, I moved all my supplies to the art room at West Jefferson Elementary, in West Jefferson, NC. I teach there on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. On Thursdays and Fridays, I teach at Fleetwood Elementary, in Fleetwood, NC.

Around the first of March, I will move again, this time to Mountain View Elementary in Jefferson, NC. This year, I will be in a different room there, the Dance Room!

I will continue to add art to the site as it is made!

What's New?

The school year has started off real "HOT" with children doing some real "COOL" art.

During my summer vacation:

I painted a mural of a big ole purple dragon in the library at Blue Ridge Elementary.

I drew several portraits.

I took lots of pictures with my camera of sunrises, flowers, and interesting people.

I designed some tee-shirts.

I helped at Christmas in July, Children's Activities (did you see my picture in the newspaper?)

I took a workshop on web page building, how did I do?
